  1. Resistance calculation is really important in DQ-Stars. I wrote an article how to calculate it here, based on the Japanese version. It's purely technical, and there's no spoiler. It's not necessary yet, but keen players will soon find it invaluable, say in April or May. In strong boss fights, it'll be crucial. You can't play (in fact, can't DL) the worldwide version in Japan, including me. Please suggest me any improvements, in particular terminology glitches. Enjoy! EDIT: @Brother Jaybird and @ignasia: Thanks for your kind replies! You know I'm a newbie here, tee-hee. @woodus: Thank you very much for running a great site!

  2. A wiki user by the name of Molacarthy has ripped the entire transcript for the mobile phone version of IV, as well as the party chat for VI. I had nothing to do with either rip, I'm just spreading word about this achievement and all credit is due towards Molacarthy. https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/Dragon_Quest_IV_Transcript https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/Dragon_Quest_VI_Party_Chat I'm posting this in the general section of the forum to maximize visibility for most readers; Woodus, if you want to move it later then by all means.

  3. Welcome! I'm 18 years old, probably one of the younger members of the site. I've tried my best to experience hundreds on hundreds of games I've missed out on through emulation so I feel I could hold a conversation with anyone reminiscing about the "good old days" of gaming! I started with Dragon Quest VIII when I was 11 but never got to finish it because I lost my PlayStation 2 and the game in a house-fire when I was 12. I bought Dragon Quest IX at launch and officially caught the bug. Bought the remake of Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS at launch and if I could've bought it earlier than that I would have -- suffice it to say, getting the childhood game I never got to finish back was emotional for me. Got the VII remake, and then played/replayed every localized Dragon Quest in preparation for Dragon Quest XI. You're with good people, man! Welcome again to the den!

  4. I’d attempt that challenge. I don’t know if I would succeed, but I’d go for it.

  5. Thank you for sharing that, will definitely be looking into it when the game comes out tomorrow.

  6. Ah, where would we be without tangents? I was looking something up about Dragon Quest fairies and encountered a video of a DQX quest. I don't know the full context, but it involves bringing spring back by allowing Satadesu (サタデス) to dance. I think I've found my favorite DQX character. I'm calling him Saturdeath, for obvious reasons. I can't embed it, but: https://youtu.be/G8Qm6XBNDVM?t=546

  7. I had close to this in my original Cobi DQM2 cart. I ended up filling my whole 312 DQ-dex, mainly by breeding & trading across the link cables. It was my most memorable DQ experience. I don't think I'll go for it here because yikes, you're looking at making dozens of lower tier bosses such as Dragon Lord, but I 100% commend your efforts! This is definitely a game I'll be dropping everything to play when it gets finished. I have faith Z6n4 eventually will find the way to do so!

  8. Actual chart showing my enjoyment of Dragon Quest: Your Story. I'd love to leave a full review, but I'm still reeling from that M. Night Shyamalan ending.

  10. Back to Tokyo Mirage Sessions after my customary “stuck so I’m going to take a week off” break. And just like every other time, the problem fixes itself almost immediately. The boss I was stuck on was a breeze this time and now I can move on, which is good because I had basically run out of new weapons to use so I was basically using mastered or mildly upgraded weapons, which is a waste. A flood of Radiant Unity skills unlocked too. And I’ve got Duo Arts that can extend the length of my Sessions and a couple Master Seals as well. Right now, I’m just blitzing through some side content and then I’ll get back to the main game. I hear the next chapter is incredibly long compared to the rest.

  11. I've chosen my moniker for this site based on what I'll do when I get the chance to play this. I intend to have a proverbial "Living Pokedex" of final bosses from throughout the series - one of each, all at the same time. As most of their synth chains require others, this means I'll be making most of them multiple times. That's why this game in particular is so important to me - it included every flavor of demon lord from throughout the series at the time of its release. Joker 3, to my moderate horror, actually cut three final bosses (Magarugi, Xiphos, and Gadis) and several other cool monsters for palette swaps and generic-looking robots for reasons I have no idea of. I'm not sure how feasible this goal will actually be, though - I know some bosses require (ugh) promo monsters and I don't know if there'll be any way to get them in the ROM.

  12. Random bit of trivia for you, but Groundhog Day is my half-birthday. I’m not sure after all these years if I remember Groundhog Day because of my half-birthday, or if I remember my half-birthday because of Groundhog Day. I usually try to watch the movie on Groundhog Day at least once, or tune into AMC since they usually have a full day marathon of the movie if I’m at home.

  14. Both parts of this plan happened. I went to a local game store and picked up Medievil and Neir Automata. I played a little bit of Medievil and I'm gonna try to beat it while my wife is gone up north for a few days.

  15. Thank you for showing me that! I completely get why it stalled, yeah. Real life, of course, comes first. But it's good to know it's not OVER, even so!

  16. Hello there! I've really wanted to play this game since it came out, and when I saw this project I decided to use it, along with the Wiki and FFSky, to create a little project of my own - creating a synthesis chart for the game's final boss, He Who Has No Name, just to show how absurdly long it is. Behold my results; I like to call it "How to Synthesize Different Types of Dragon Quest Villains from Quite A Long Wa Away." It's a small project, at least in comparison to its inspiration, but I wanted to make an account here to share it with you, and moreover to do my little bit to show that interest in getting this thing translated is still alive. Finally being able to play Iru and Luca and reaching the end of this crazy chain is high on my video game bucket list! Tell me what you think!

  17. I vaguely recall the game being added to gamestop's sku list around winter of 2018, but this posting is new and, coupled with the german registry, is a good sign.

  18. Really hard to argue against VII, VIII, IX, XI and Monsters Joker 2 being the best, honestly.

  19. Well, this was a fun thread! I will always remember Horii's idea on how Dragon Quest works: And then you got metal slimes that went from the traditional "get lucky to kill" which was closer to winning the lottery, to a surefire mass murder of dopamine rush that is Dragon Quest 11. But that's just the tide of times, of high dopamine reward browsing memes on Reddit, swiping on Tinder or whatever tickles your pickles. Hey, I don't yuck other people's yums! And also, to add another quote: "Real world patience" *laughs at fast forward* hey, it's a feature that sells more game copies so who cares?

  20. Either I finish learning the Japanese language and play it in Japanese, or I wait for them to localize it and play it in English.. I guess I'll only get to play it in 8 years either way.

  22. Started a little Dragon Quest art blog to share art from the old manuals and guides most newer players haven't seen. Come and check it out here: dragonquestart.tumblr.com I usually do one post a day.
