The other day on the DataHoarder subreddit, somebody posted an archive of around 90 GB of video game commercials dating backing to the 80s through to modern consoles. I looked through them and pulled out only the DQ ads as I thought someone here might want them. They aren't all very good quality, many of them having been captured from VHS and then compressed digitally, but for many of them I imagine they're the only copies in existence. There are Japanese as well as international commercials. Many of them, like some of the EU DQIX commercials I had never seen before. Here's an upload if somebody wants them, or if @Woodus wants them for the site. They're organized by game system in different directories. Around 180 video files at about 1.5 GB total zipped. https://www.mediafire.com/file/ucc8u3wx1wizd3p/DQ_Commercials.7z/file

Hi I recently started playing all of the DQ's because 11 was my first. The game is pretty enjoyable. It's a slow burn but in a good way. The summary is you basically play as a luminary to fight off the dark lord. If you've played DQ 1-3 those could essentially mean something of importance to you. My favorite character was Erik. Not only for his personality but because he is super OP when you have him in your party for farming metal slimes. You should really try it. I played it on ps4 and played literally nothing else until i finished it. The investment into the story is definitely worth it.

And on today's episode of Hunting Atlas, I couldn't find any of the Wanted!, which is what I'm hunting (I must've seen three dozen of the brutes so far, and the only Wanted! I've seen so far killed me at the eleventh hour). I'd planned on mobbing one with about ten Multicoloured Mannequins I'd recruited (since I was trying to bump their hunted numbers up, which is a ridiculously high 300), but decided to spend them all on a regular Atlas instead. It was fun cruising around with nearly a dozen post-game critters mauling all the local slimes and what not, but I still need to kill a Wanted! Atlas. I'll try again later this week, --- Share your own Heroes-series tales below.

I actually have a Beta SP of a Dragon Quest VIII commercial that ran on MTV in 2005. I worked there at the time and when the commercial came in I know we typically junked tapes after they were digitized, so I asked the video team to return the tape to me when it was complete. I don't have a Beta SP player or a means to record the footage, though. At this point the tape is just some random DQ swag in my collection.

https://nintendosoup.com/rumor-more-dragon-quest-titles-could-be-ported-to-nintendo-switch-this-year/ I'm guessing that the Dragon Quest games in question is the ports of Dragon Quest I, Dragon Quest II, and Dragon Quest III that was released in Japan on the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo 3DS. But who knows what might be ported over?

Just as a related story, there’s a bunch of songs from an unreleased Rilo Kiley demo tape out in the wild to download somewhere because a fan forum discovered it up for auction and assigned someone who could get the songs online to bid for them, and members donated towards it. That was a bit different though. Everyone got something out of it, and the person who did the legwork got a memento for their troubles. How can we be sure the community at large would benefit from this?

The best part about the reveal for the Definitive Edition? Your party members follow behind you. I sincerely missed this while playing DQ11 on my PS4. Seeing everyone in your active party follow behind you was awesome.

Took me two tries (Mac level 30) to get through the painting on strong enemies. That boss fight is pure luck. I got multi-thrust now which helps immensely. I always forget about Erik's boulder attack spells and that helped me out as well in this one. I'm dreading the dragon fight coming up fairly soon. That guy knocked me out the first time last game even without the Draconian Quest options.

https://m.ign.com/articles/2007/04/05/mikami-alive-and-well ^ If you trust IGN’s translation of a Famitsu article. Regardless, Mikami quite infamously said he’d “cut off his head” if RE4 went anywhere but GameCube. Whether that was meant literally or was mistranslated to mean “leaving the company,” the meaning is still the same. And it does hurt the bottom line for Nintendo if they’re trying to boost sales for their flagging console and after Capcom comes out and says that they’re working on five games exclusive to the GameCube backpedals shortly after and says all but one, Resident Evil 4, could potentially end up on other consoles. (https://m.ign.com/articles/2003/01/16/cgd-03-capcom-five-not-gcn-exclusive) Only to then say, two months before release that it would be coming to PS2 as well. Difference is Dragon Quest XI never promised console exclusivity. Killer7, along with RE4, Viewtiful Joe, and two other games, were all initially announced as GameCube exclusives and were meant to boost sales for the console. Edited for clarity.

I was referring to people in the Facebook group Platty and I run having meltdowns about the Switch version with my post above. I should have mentioned that before, but like most Saturdays when I have to work I kind of have to blurt out what I want to post, which is not a good habit. I haven’t bothered looking anywhere else on the internet for reactions but I’m sure it’s about the same depending where you look. I’m hoping they’ll do what they did with World of Final Fantasy when it came to the Maxim version and offer a means to download and enjoy the new content. Maybe do what Dakhil said and make it available after so much time for the PS4/PC version.

And to play devil's advocate, Square Enix did say that Dragon Quest XI on PlayStation 4 and PC needs to do well in order for future Dragon Quest games to be localised outside of Japan, so I don't completely blame people who bought the PlayStation 4 and the PC versions to feel upset. I'm personally OK with the exclusive features of Dragon Quest XI S being available as a DLC patch (that may require payment) for the PlayStation 4 and the PC versions, but at least a year after the release of Dragon Quest XI S.

When I played Rune Factory Tides of Destiny 3 years ago, I had to play up front for 30 , 60, or 90 days. I have good Internet, but had to plug in my PS4 to the router to make sure it had the best connection and still it'd drop every other hour or so. It sucked. I’ve heard it’s improved somewhat since it came out.

It feels like every other week I’m talking about going back and revisiting old Pokémon games. This time it’s Diamond and SoulSilver. I had a sudden flash of inspiration to go back to Diamond, since it seemed a shame not to try to complete the Pokédex when I was just below 20 away. I dunno what made me stop back then. I think it was because I needed a Zangoose, which I was under the impression wasn’t available in any game I had (I have SoulSilver, as I mentioned so that’s not the case), and because it would require restarting SoulSilver to get a Totodile, which were the last three Pokémon I couldn’t obtain any other way than by erasing 60 hours of hard work in SoulSilver. I’m gonna trade over alllllll my Pokémon in that game that I can’t trade over immediately from Diamond and then I’ll restart, trade Totodile, and then maybe some day revisit it if I don’t have the drive to immediately after Diamond (I’ve been to Johto like twice already this year, I need a break). It needs to be said that Gen IV is easily the most convoluted set of games to complete, and because everyone migrated their Pokémon up and no one goes back to those games anymore, it’s basically impossible to complete the Pokédex 100% without mythical Pokémon to obtain from others. I apparently dumped 200 hours into Diamond and seemed to have been working on a Living Dex. All goes well this will be the first Pokédex I’ve completed.

Hey thanks man. It makes me happy I can do this for people. Believe me, I'd LOVE to jump ahead and do the SNES remakes. I think you're right in that if I did do that, the other games wouldn't get done. I'm still a novice to rom hacking so I like to stay with what I know and what I'm used to, learning as I go, than jumping systems and having to learn new procedures, tools, etc. And I know people aren't exactly foaming at the mouth to play Dragon Warrior 2 of all games, but I don't want to leave gaps for possible newcomers who insist on playing the originals. Sounds great! I honestly don't know much about that stuff, just keep in mind with the rom expansion needed to accompany the script this definitely won't work on the original cartridge. Anyway, progress update. The script is pretty much finished and updated DW2's strange dictionary system mentioned a few posts back. The intro is definitely a conundrum for me. It's not just the text (DW2 had the third person narration, the monsters speaking) that's completely different, but the "choreography" of the sprites. I'm thinking of dumping the third person narration just for the intro and use the modern style *: labeling (there's no parenthesis in the game like DW1 so I'm going to use the asterisk for the various emotes in the game like sob or sigh). I hope to really capture and compare both versions side by side and see if it's possible to match them up. Oh and if you haven't checked, version DW1 1.3c featuring a ton of fixes based off reports and feedback is out. I think there's one little typo and another little title screen tweak by Chicken Knife for a future update otherwise it's pretty final.

I guess it's like DQV, given Gemma and the Hero grew up together, and all the statements indicating she wants no one else, and wants her Luminary to come back to her, Gemma is in a way a far more strongly connected Bianca. Though given the events that transpire, it isn't like Horii didn't write in each female as though there could be a stronger connection due to their travels and surviving trials and tribulations together. I am surprised that the option for multiple wives wasn't available from the start, nor a greater emphasis, like actually witnessing a wedding. It isn't like he didn't set the story up for this to happen. There's at least 3 different points foreshadowing the likelihood of such an event. Then the way it works out is a little ridiculous. I mean it isn't like after having saved the day Gemma would need a wish to marry him...that made no sense. Literally no sense. It also takes away the idea of a fun fiesta in between the first set of major events in Act 3, and right before the true final boss reveals himself. That could easily have been written in. Or wait until Cobblestone is complete, then top it off with a wedding celebration. It's not like Cobblestone's mayor doesn't double down on the Luminary marrying his daughter "when" he returns or anything. Or his adoptive mother indicating that your character and Gemma are essentially a married couple already given how close you two are, and obviously wanting to make that a reality so you'd have extra reason to return or anything... So given that it would make sense to do a whole setup, have a special event, and you pick your wife under certain circumstances in the midst of it. Maybe another night restless night under the tree... It really surprised me especially given 11 takes a lot from 8 as well, and there's even more foreshadowing for marriage in 11 than 8 ever had! Long before I spoiled myself on it, just walking back into Cobblestone in Act 2, seeing everyone alive, and the language and dialogue has a lot of hints and focus on marriage...and how great it is that Gemma has the Hero...and how you two should get together, and how Gemma's waiting for you to return and will keep the village in great shape until your return...to her, specifically her, not the village, not his mum, but HER! I want to shake Horii, ask him wtf he was thinking making it a wish. That would have been so much fun seeing a proper wedding party.

@Woodus You might want to add a page for this data I'm about to impart: In Act 1, the moment the orbs are shown to Benedictus in Arboria allowing access to the First Forest, the game makes a copy of the full inventories of Erik / Veronica / Serena / Sylvando / Rab / Jade. Not the Luminary, just the other party members. This includes equipped items. At some point in Act 3, all of the equipment and items from those party members from that unique snapshot in Act 1 are copied over in an event that takes place. So all the items and equipment from that moment, upon giving all of the orbs to Benedictus in Arboria, are copied over and end up in your inventory. Now, because of this, there are certain 1-time only or limited supply equipment that can be copied over to allow doubles of, and certain items that probably should be copied over. Recommendations highlighted in green. Weapons: Banishing Blade (ATK 91/95/101/108, Parry Chance 2%, Bonus Damage vs Demons 10%) (Red Door <Hotto Steppe>) Assassin's Dagger (ATK 37/39/41/44, Chance to kill on hit 2%) (Caverns Under Octagonia) Nobleman's Knife (ATK 64/68/73/78, MMP 6/7/8/9, Charm 19/21/23/25, Chance to Beguile Humanoids 8%) (Red Door <Sniflheim Castle>) Pixie Pole (ATK 15/16/17/18, MMend 12/13/14/15, MMight 3/3/4/4, MP Absorb 2/2/2/3%, MP Regeneration 2/2/2/3, Chance to Beguile Nature 8%) (Grotta della Fonte) Rune Staff (ATK 23/25/27/29, MMight 21/23/25/27, MMend 16/17/18/20, MP Absorb 9%, Chance to Paralyze 8%) (Mini Medals <20MM>) Gracos's Trident (ATK 70/74/79/84, Parry 2%, Chance to Beguile Nature 8%) (Quest <Nautica - Up Where They Walk>) Starting Weapons that can be used in Duel Wield [Cobblestone Sword, Erik's Dagger, Serena's Wand, Sylvando's Sword] The other Starting Weapons [Cobblestone Greatsword, Veronica's Staff, Rab's Cane, Jade's Glaive] <- Rab's Cane can be used in battle Helmets: Trodain Bandana (There's only 1, and it's used up to create the improved version, so with 2 the original can be kept) (You start with it) Armour: Glombolero (DEF 40/42/44/46, MMight 17/18/19/21, Chance of Absorbing MP +20%) (Mini Medals <50MM>) Agility Gilet (DEF 45/47/50/53, Agility 15/16/18/20, Charm 38/40/43/46) (Mini Medals <45MM>) Trodain Togs (There's only 1, and it's used up to create the improved version, so with 2 the original can be kept) (You start with it) Vest for Success (+1% Chest drop rate) (1x for PSN Pre-orders only, sadly NOT AVAILABLE for everyone else, and for those people, this is the only Vest that is a MUST) Arriviste's Vest (+10% Gold, 15 cap, per battle, not very useful but only 1 available normally, 2 for Amazon Pre-orders) (Puerto Valor Casino <10,000T>) Elevating Vest (+10% EXP, 75 cap, per battle, not very useful but only 1 available normally, 2 for Gamestop Pre-orders) (Puerto Valor Casino <10,000T>) Uniforme de l'Academie (+1% Chest drop rate) (3x normally, in Act 1 no less, and only 3 women, so this is merely for those who just want extras for whatever reason) (Mini Medals <25MM>, Quest <L'Academie - The Agony and the Ecstacy>, Red Door <L'Academie>) Gallopolis Garb (1 only, only the Hero can equip, so this is only if you want an extra for whatever reason, like an extra one in the inventory to have a complete inventory if it's your favourite costume gear and he's still wearing it in Act 3) (Gallopolis <Silver Cup - Easy Mode first win>) Accessories: Gemma's Charm (because why not? It's a keepsake, and I'm curious if the original is used in the making of the better version, but either way it's from Gemma...they really should follow through on expanding this relationship in the Switch version) (Event <Gemma gives it>) Trickster (DEF 2/2/2/3, Charm 5/6/8/10, Evasion Rate +1/2/3/4%) (Quest <Gallopolis - A Cactus Cutlet to Die For>) Assassin (DEF 2/2/2/3, Charm 5/6/8/10, Critical Rate +1/1/1/2%) (Gallopolis <Silver Cup - Difficult Mode first win>) Shield-Bearer (DEF 10/12/15/20, Charm 5/6/8/10, Block Rate +1/1/1/2%, Parry Rate +1/1/1/2%) (Mini Medal <5MM>) Warlock (DEF 2/2/2/3, Charm 5/6/8/10, MMight 3/5/7/10, MMend 3/5/7/10, Spell Critical Rate +1/1/1/2%) (Quest <Lonalulu - My Secret Saint>) Vanguard (DEF 2/2/2/3, Charm 5/6/8/10, Agility 10/11/13/15, Chance to Start Pre-Emptive Battle +1/2/3/5%) (The Champs Sauvage) Supplicant (DEF 2/2/2/3, Charm 5/6/8/10, MP Regeneration per round 1/2/2/3) (1x for all players as a bonus, Arboria) Healer (DEF 2/2/2/3, Charm 5/6/8/10, HP Regeneration per round 3/5/7/10) (1x for all players as a bonus) Belle's Bow (Jade ONLY, DEF 10/11/13/15, Charm 20/21/23/25, MP Regeneration per round 3/4/5/6) (Quest <L'Academia - A Memorable Message>) Traveller's Hood (Hero ONLY, no other real purpose to this other than...if you like using it on the Hero but want to save the slot in the inventory then sure, or just want maximum counts possible, then sure) Other Useful Things that can be considered: Pep Pips (4 normally) Seeds (Skill <5x found, 4x from Sniflheim Crossbow, 3x bonus with every game copy, 3x or 15x pre-order bonuses> , Life <Metal Slime , Corpse Corporal> , Magic <Hypothermion> , Strength <Brownie, Troll> , Deftness <Pteranodon, Chillanodon> , Agility <Raven Lunatic> , Defence <Jockilles, Mosstodon> , Sorcerery <Professaurus> , Therapeusis <Wrecktor>) Falcon Blade (2x at this point, Mini Medal Reward <35MM>, Red Door <Isula Occidentalis - just North of The Strand>) Falcon Knife Earring (1x at this point, Red Door <Puerto Valor>) Wristorative (10/15/20/25 HP restored per round) (1x at this point, Red Door <Cobblestone>) ---====--- Now as to Farming Seeds, here's some advice: Get at least 8 (recommended 16 total) Bunny Tails from the Bunnicorns around Heliodor. Use the Campsite in the Heliodor region, get Erik + Hero to Pep State (easier early game, but the steal rate will be much easier), then save, and save scum Itemized Kill until successful (it's easier if you want for Serena + Veronica as you'll have one Robber Glove, and can more easily steal a second from the Robber Rabbits around Gallopolis, but still very doable here). Once a single Bunny Tail is procured, equip it, then just kill indiscriminately and with each new Bunny Tail, equip them to speed up the process. It isn't hard to get 8x with just Erik. Takes about 20 minutes maximum. If you wait until 2x Robber Gloves, it will probably be around 10 minutes...assuming Erik + MC are in the Pep State. It's easier to get them there if both Veronica and Serena are in the Pep state as well (rate of Pep is MUCH higher with just Erik + Hero alone, but overall it's just easier to farm later on). I do recommend getting at least 4x while you have just the Hero + Erik though. Do note that Itemized Kill requires the Hero learning Flame Slash, and Erik learning Half-Inch. Note, you do not have to upgrade any Bunny Tail, they give the same +1% chest drop rate regardless of upgrade level. Make sure everyone has the following things equipped before farming: Uniforme de l'Academie (all three women), and Bunny Tails in both slots on everyone. Best if the rotation is men only, keeping all three women in the active party at all times. Seed of Strength -> early hunting around the Gallopolis Southern Campsite, with 4x potential battles immediately on the way to Gallopolis, and 6x potential on the way to the Gondolia Checkpoint. An alternative is the SW-most island. Seed of Deftness -> Sniflheim region, lower section of the map, between the two spawning locations down in that oval shaped area of 2x and 3x Chillanodon Seed of Agility -> Around the ruins of houses just near the Ruins of Dundrasil, the Southernmost three houses especially, but anywhere in that Southern section. Seed of Magic -> Abuse the healing statue in The Other Side, and there are three platforms with at least two Hypothermions, probably the worst seed to farm for, and the one most easy to overlevel the party Seed of Life -> The Other Side, first area, or The Champs Sauvage at night, lower section near Phnom Nonh. Seed of Sorcery/Therapeusis -> Royal Library, floors 2, 3, and 4. Just go to town. Do realize that having only 1 monster in battle does seem to negatively impact chances, so Therapeusis will be easier to farm than Sorcery at this time.

It’s extremely frustrating not seeing Final Fantasy 8 or Dragon Quest 7 along side their brethren on my iPhone and iPad lol. I ordered a 2DS XL on Friday (I got the Pikachu one because it looks awesome lol 😂) and it will be in on Tuesday, according to Amazon. I’ve been 3DS-less for about a year now which is why I haven’t played it. I gave my New 3DS XL to my step-stone last summer along with my Pokémon games (I kept DQ 7 and 8 and my Zelda games though lol) because his got stolen and he was upset about it. I had hoped that DQ 7 mobile would be a year or a year and a half after the 3DS release so I didn’t rush out and buy a replacement 3DS. I’ve been replaying DQ 6 on my iPad and I said “Damnit I want to play the DQ 7 remake already.” So I went to Amazon to look at 3DS models and saw the Pikachu 2DS XL and said “Okay I’m buying that one.” I will probably get halfway through the 3DS version and SE will release the mobile version lol.

That will get you versions 1 through 3. Version 4 will have to be purchased separately if you want the Version 4 content. There is no all in one that includes Version 4 yet (It'll probably come in a few years). The disk might have more than one installer on it. You may have to run a few installers to get everything. There is going to be a product registration code which should be inside the game box. If you don't buy Version 4, you can still play versions 1 - 3. Some content such as the 100 level cap will require version 4 even if you aren't on the Version 4 story yet.

In fairness, Dragon Quest itself has always been iffy on worldbuilding and flavor (there was next to no flavor text in a mainline DQ game until VIII); this thread is in no small part an attempt to fix that. (It irks me, for example, that one of the bigger cosmic problems of IX goes decidedly unresolved even if you obtain 100% completion).

I visited a used game store and they had a ton of Nintendo Power magazines. Most of them were from 2000 or newer, but they had one issue, from May/June 1989, and it had a two page preview spread of Dragon Warrior for the NES. I can't remember if I included this when I found a bunch of the DW stuff before that Nintendo Power repository went down last year, but I scanned the 2-page spread for people to see, since it's been nearly a year since that anyways. I love the western spin on the art. Toriyama's style would have been just fine, but Trying to catch the D&D players for this series in the west, I understand.
