  1. Regards: I have the honour to announce here the release of a new patch, that I have created, that fixes all the bugs that existed in the English translation of Dragon Quest 1+2 for SNES, like the game freezing dialog in the inn of Beranule / Beran, the Prince of Cannock's cloning bug, or the endless dialog with a nun after defeating Hargon, near the end, as well as an untranslated variant of the DQ1 ending that was still in Japanese, when you complete the game by carrying the princess Laura in your arms; besides many other important bugs (like the one that cuts a dialog during the DQ1 fin

Like the title says, my best friend, my brother from another mother, died on a motorcycle accident on February 10 of 2021 and I've been devastated. I've always loved reading, video games, getting into manga and anime and rpg's have been my favorite genre since I was a kid. Unfortunately I never got into Dragon Quest (although I was well aware of the series, Dai anime etc) until recently that I popped DQ XI s into my Switch and began playing i

  3. Oh, my god! Lol Thank you. By the way. Notice a new update of this pach has been released, in the aforementioned web and also in romhacking.net community, that adds some new features that might be of interest. v.1.03c - Item name "Statue of Evil" in inventory is unified to "Eye of Malroth", how it's mentioned in dialogs, to avoid confusions. - Consequently, final boss name Shidor passes to Malroth. - Interrupted message "Oh, [name], it seems you've died... in battle!", that appeared like "Oh, [name], it seems you've di... in battle!" fixed, and erased the cod

  4. Good evening folks! I've been working on my free time on the making of a French and English translation of Item Monogatari, a book of several short stories about items and their respective lore from DQI to III, initially realesed in 1989. The first chapter, "Sword of King" is done and completed (chapter 11 "Armour of Erdrick" is almost done) and I thought I might as well share it here, as I also shared it on Twitter. :'D Hope y'all like it! Chapter one features Rubiss too, should you want more of her after reading the first volume of the novel Seirei Rubiss Densetsu! Click me!

  5. Dude, calm down. You are making tons of assumptions about a game we know almost nothing about. While it's not unlikely that DQXII might "double down" on QoL, but not because people outside of Japan like it. The games have always had accessibility in mind since the very beginning. https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/125100/Horii_Accessibility_Is_A_Cornerstone_of_Dragon_Quests_Success.php It seems that Shin Megami Tensei V would be more of your speed at this rate, judging by some of your suggestions.

  6. Thanks a lot for the positive response! There are like 12 chapters iirc in the book, but despite starting with chapter 1, the one I'm working on now is the 11th. Since they don't really follow each other, I took the liberty of working on those whose item's story I was the most curious about. Chapter 11: Armor of Erdrick will then be the second chapter available. Then it'll be the one on the Mirror of Ra!

  8. Those games would look nice with an HD 2D Octopath Traveler style look. It would be fun to watch your monsters following you around the overworld if they were given a bit more animation (and actual diagonal movement sprites) as you explored. Seems they are making this style of remake for Dragon Quest 1 and 2 as well (as Yuji Horii actually got the whistle blown at him for spilling the beans on that), so maybe when it comes down to it we’ll see an Erdrick Trilogy HD 2D release in one package.

  9. As far as the announcements went, I felt like this: Erasers: Meh, it’s mobile. DQ10: That was just not handled well at all. Way to raise our hopes up for nothing. DQ10 Offline: Looks promising and I bet we get this one. Totally fine with that. DQ3 HD 2D: Best announcement of the whole thing. Definitely the most exciting especially since this was the first mainline game I played along with DQ4. DQ Treasures: Meh. I need more information. DQ12: The Dark Souls of DQ Games. Not surprised they had few details, but I’m interested in the comments on the “Meaning of life” story and the

  10. Good early morning! I'm sharing my DWIV Journey Journal with video links to my Solo Challenge showing my battles defeating Esturk, the barrier bosses and Necrosaro. It was NOT easy, yet I know a few of you on here has successfully completed this challenge. I'm glad to join in your ranks! Maybe some things I wrote will help others who'd want to undertake and complete this challenge. https://supersommerville.wordpress.com/2021/05/26/dragon-warrior-iv-nes-solo-challenge/

  11. Hello everyone. I am EverydaySlime. I am using a translator to assist in this. I see that there is a nice Dragon Quest community with Westerners and I am surprised to see many fan games here too! Did you know we have some in Japan too? I would like to share them with you. I would like to share my number one favorite K.Mix. https://retrogamehackers.net/dq3kmix-readme/ This modification is of Dragon Quest III. It adds many events and scenarios to the game. Scenarios like playing event with Ortega and having non Rudia Party members! The difficulty is raised as well so be ready.

  12. Hey guys, some folks at the Den's Discord server and I have been working on some preservation efforts for the English / Global version of the game. Edit: Gotta mention the good work Woodus put into datamining the character art, which i have used for the videos i link later in this post Check out that thread too! We have different projects: Screenshotting the Compendium, the 3d models for the weapons and armor are the big priority here. More on this later. Adding as much Compendium info into a spreadsheet. English is the biggest priority, but getting the Chinese, Spanish, Fr

Long time no see on this thread, but the Dragon's Den server celebrated its first year on June 5th and i made a small illustration for it, depicting all the people that have shaped the server and are still kicking around . It all started for matchmaking on Dragon Quest Stars (R.I.P.), and became something amazing. this time, no dumps: i haven't made any fanart lately, been busy dealing with irl stuff, sorry. 15. Welcome to the Den. Enjoy Dragon Quest, it's a great series to get into. However, be careful not to drown yourself in it as a coping mechanism. Grieving sucks, but it's part of healing. Consider seeing a counselor if you are struggling with it. Hope you are well in time!

  16. Yup, the job system allowed and ENCOURAGES replays of the game. Hell I’ll most likely be playing the long ass DQ VII within the next couple years for a third time. Why? Because the experience can be totally different with a different crew.
    3 points
  17. I’d absolutely love the return of the Job system, which I think VII nailed the best, though IX was also pretty damn good.

  18. Totally disagree with this. Any remakes that’ll spread love for the series will be great in my book. Even for me, all of the remakes have made the games way more accessible and some of them have just been an outright blast, with III and VII being at the top of the list. That being said, I would get most excited about remakes of IV - VI. I’d replay all three in HD-2D mode and I’d be damn excited about it.

  19. I cheated as well. But a game that deserves the Octopath treatment would DEFINATELY have to be Final Fantasy 6. It would be so georgeouseses.

  20. They only specifically said that V6 for the online will not see a worldwide release. They didn't say anything either was for the Offline announcement, but it noticeably lacked the "There are no plans for a worldwide release." disclaimer that the V6 announcement had.

  22. The other day, after a brief conversation with @Xiggy i made a quick twitter thread on how to upgrade basic square houses into more beautiful building. To go from this: to this: --- On another note, Ben XC posted a 35 tips video recently. I personally do not recommend the block removal one, but otherwise very solid tricks and tips. This one is in Japanese, but you might learn some advanced plant-based building techniques with this video. This person shows very clearly how they do everything in the video, it's amazing.

  23. Honestly you’re better off. There are fans like us DQ folks I’ve interacted with who are pretty down to earth and just enjoy talking about the series and different elements/characters, but then there are some people who are extreme one way or the other. I know I get annoyed with a lack of other SMT stuff and that I joke about Persona (pretty much in the exact same way I joke about DQ9), but I’ve got nothing against anyone who prefers that series. You like it, great, just don’t be a dick about it. It’s just not for me but there are things I enjoyed about them. I’ll just stick with the othe

  28. Thank you. If anyone else ever has this issue, what fixed it was, playing thru the offline intro with a new easy mode character, creating an online character from that profile, then quitting the game. After that, now I'm able to login to the game on my previous profile with no issue.

  31. Welcome! Echoing what everyone else said, so sorry to hear about your friend. I've often thought of Dragon Quest as a means to fight sadness or depression, to a certain extent. It's definitely something that takes the edge off of reality at times when life is a struggle, from my perspective. Providing, of course, that we don't fall so far into the game that we start to forget reality, entirely. Anyway, thanks for joining the community!

  33. > What Could DQ12 do Different so that It stands out from the other games DQ has run the gamut of jRPG conventions, so it's actually covered a lot of ground. At this point the best way to make a new DQ stand out would be to integrate or riff on elements from side-games. In-battle shortcuts (see DQ Heroes characters with specially assigned skills) pace GrandAlchemist would be great, and likewise shortcuts for the overworld (even specific implementations of spells, like "Zoom to A Specific Place" or "Heal a Specific Character"). Expand DQ 11's menu shortcuts beyond Handy Heal All, li

  35. Today I’m taking care of the cat while my parents are out of town. When I woke up this morning at home, I had an old update for The Last of Us: Part II downloading in the background. Some of it was downloaded the other day, but today I had 2.5 GBs left, which took about 3 hours. I went to my parents’ house and brought along my XBone to download some games and updates to take advantage of their wifi. About 450 MBs in two minutes for some small updates to backwards comparable games and 4 GBs in less than 20 minutes for State of Decay 2.

  36. Wahoo! Didn't know this could happen, but I took the Regional Champ soccer team on early this morning. Tied game. Tied overtime. Went to PK. Went to extra PK. PKs involve zero skill, just guessing which of 5 zones the computer will kick to, and then vice versa on offense. Lost in the 7th or 8th PK. Reloaded and it only took that 2nd game to come away victorious. Decided not to reset after going down 1-0 early, scored 3 straight goals and hung on to win 3-2. What I liked about this match is that there was no #$*!ing cheap gimmick like some of the other matches, it was just a tough team. They ha

  37. I started Kingdom Come which is somewhat of a mixed RPG and mixed action (less so than Mass Effect or Dragon Age) game. It's got potential, and I really like the historical theme. I haven't had the time to really get into it yet, but I like the game so far.

  38. A lot of interesting ideas here. I think a morality system is bad for DQ. So many games have one, they're rarely implemented in interesting ways, and to be honest, there's too much evil being glorified today. Dragon Quest is like a lighthouse in a sea of storms. The same comparison can be applied to its gameplay, too. Anyway here are my ideas Return to tension system, or a hybrid pep/tension system, or preferably, no tension/pep and just standard combat. I don't trust the pep system to be interesting or consistent; the only way of having control over it is weakening its power, which make

  40. Sorry to hear about your loss. I can sadly relate to this experience. Dragon Warrior 7 provided 100+ hours of comfort to me after my wife and I split a dozen years ago. It did indeed help to lose myself for a few months in a grand adventure like that.

  43. The poll didn’t have my choice, which is Dragon Quest VIII. I’ve long wanted a demake in the style of the DS games. The Switch version’s 2D mode gave me hope that we might get something like this, and now that I know they’re making remakes in a similar (but more modern) style, I think this far off dream game is a lot closer to reality than I could have hoped for.

  44. Been all over the place RPG-wise. Guess it'd be good to summarize here as I'm going to talk about it all on a podcast in 3 hours. Inazuma Eleven - still just having fun playing matches down in the training facility and building up an entire team's stats at one time. Sure it takes like 10 minutes, but getting a +1 to eleven people's stats is worth it! Legend of the River King GBC - I've been wanting a chill game to get me through NHL playoffs and though this would be great. A fishing RPG! Heck, it even had a battle with a crow at one point, instead of just fishing! Unfortunately, I never caug

And while It's NOT As Likely; I'd Love to see an HD-2D Mode in Dragon Quest XII; Or See a HD-2D Chrono Trigger(on Second thought; That just might not be possible; due to how the Battles take place on the Overworld in that game; as well as Enemy Placement being a Significant Gameplay Mechanic for Battle Strategy; and with the Double & Triple Techs as well); or See Remakes Of Dragon Quest IV, V, & VI in the HD-2D Style of Octopath Traveler. . .
