#486524 Dragon Quest VIII Progress

Posted by Havoccultist on 02 February 2017 - 05:49 PM

Managed to collect every mini medal after probably 3 hours of backtracking looking for the last 2 I needed, the last reward is a new costume for Red that really helps with her crappy health situation.

Now I'm just a couple of bosses away from finishing the postgame Memories Lane dungeon and I think that's this game pretty much wrapped up.

#486405 Added Infamous Monsters

I wish they added stronger new monsters, I didn't really even notice any of the new arrivals because I just made the run for the old overpowered infamous monsters that are available early

#482248 Dragon Quest XI debut trailer

I really like the party this time. it really reminds me of my favorite aspect of 4, feels like you're getting a large group together to go on a big adventure.

#482227 FFXV (and Kingsglaive)

Posted by Havoccultist on 17 December 2016 - 09:47 AM

Keep in mind that this game has been in development for a decade. Now, the work might not have started in earnest until the last few, but it's important to remember that it still comes from an era where open world games had a lot of problems that have since been fixed in this day and age, while these mechanics that XV emulated remain.

The game as we've seen it has actually only been in development for a little over 3 years. They were contractually obligated to get it out this year, that decision was made before they even brought the new director on. The 2nd half of the story is the only element that feels incomplete, it was lacking in cutscenes to explain a couple of characters and their motivations specifically.

The game has it's flaws but I loved it for what it was and I think Tabata did a damn good job considering the time he was given. Its just a bit of a shame because I feel like if they could have squeezed out a few extra months of development time they could have ironed out the issues.

#474459 How did you find the Den?

Posted by Havoccultist on 29 September 2016 - 11:17 PM

Pretty sure I found this place at the ripe old age of like 13 or something when DQ9 was still relatively newish and I was searching up info on the absurdly large and randomized grotto system

#434251 LGBT in Dragon Quest?

Posted by Havoccultist on 30 August 2015 - 08:49 AM

My two cents on the topic has always been that drawing attention to things such as sexuality and making it a point of interest for a character makes it seem like sexuality has to define a person. If the goal is inclusion then it doesn't need to be made a big deal out of, who's to say any random NPC you talk to in any DQ game couldn't be gay since it's never brought into question?

#375581 Does Square Enix Deserve Us As Fans

VIII? Trashed by the localization company.

Dialogue-wise, our version was actually very similar to what Japan got I believe, minus the spell name changes, which I will never get why people $#!&@ed about so much. Also we got voice acting and orchestrated music. Those are two REALLY nice touches and big pluses.

I don't think people here understand the costs of localizing games (especially ones as text-heavy as VII) and the business risks of doing such a thing. They're a business, they aren't your mommy guys.

I don't think you understand the problem most of us have. It isn't as much as we want games, hell, I'd be okay knowing we aren't getting a game. The problem is we want to know something. And we aren't being told anything.

I wouldn't say "treated like Final Fantasy fans" the way you're saying it. It's just that they're more likely to get games localized. I'm aware of the poor quality that recent FF games have and for fans it's not so much about wanting games as it is wanting quality games. We know DQ games are quality and that's why we want as many as FF fans are getting. It's about wanting out fandom to be acknowledged the way SE acknowledges FF fans.

By treated like "Final Fantasy fans" I am saying people here expect a ton of marketing, much earlier release dates, ALL of the games to be localized (including spin-offs), Collector's Editions, etc.

I don't agree with him either but I think that's enough of that.

How can you defend Square Enix as it stands currently?

We haven't had -one damn word- about DQ, the series we're all here for, since Joker 2. :|

DQX? Silence. DQX Wii U? Silence. DQX PC? Silence. DQ7? Silence. Terry? Silence. Slime 3? Silence. DQM2? Silence.

It's pretty obvious we're just a bunch of Kingdom Hearts and crappy FF sequel lovers, to them. :|

Like I said "acting like spoiled entitled children".

No, it's bad business practice.

Honestly, the topic should be "Do the fans deserve Square-Enix?"

It doesn't really work in the inverse. I see your point about the whining, but SE is a pretty shitty company in terms of business practices, no question.

#375318 Does Square Enix Deserve Us As Fans

Posted by Havoccultist on 19 January 2014 - 12:24 AM

At this point it doesn't feel as much like the question is does Square Enix deserve us as fans, as it is does Square Enix even WANT fans? They haven't made a good business move in the longest time and their fanbase understanding is... entirely nonexistant.
