Gov doesn't like legalizing something they don't get tax $'s from but they don't have a problem wasting $ to keep people in prison for using it.

#356455 2D Dragon Quest Game

Posted by Spikan on 04 March 2013 - 09:51 PM

All I want is a less kid friendly translation. VIII was perfect. DQIX, I loved gameplay-wise, but the puns took away from the story. It was hard to focus on the genuinely moving moments of the game when they were lead by, and would more than likely be followed by a barrage of puns.

#355226 Any of these DQ games coming to the United States?

Posted by Spikan on 13 February 2013 - 03:46 PM

Also will say not a tryhard either, any mmo I go into im usually in the top clan/guild/ls of the server, usually, tryhards cant be in the clans I get into.

I was gonna honestly reply but I read this and started laughing.

And with that you just admitted yourself to the casual crowd. Again wont detail to you the reasons why.

Good lord, shut up. You've no idea what kind of games I play, I own hundreds of them, I've completed almost all of them, and I've 100%'ed a good amount of them. Casual and hardcore are terms that the worst type of 'gaming pros' use to feel good about themselves. Bashing someone's gaming preferences is no-life level. Play how you want, play what you want. If you're in a good guild in a game, that's awesome for you, cool. But when you say things like "I'm in the top guild of most games I play, even the elitest tryhards can't make it in." then you are opening yourself to ridicule as it's in all honesty, a pretty stupid thing to gloat about. No one ever made friends or impressed girls talking about their ELO in LoL.

I disagree with a self-proclaimed MMO pro and a agree with someone else instead so I am a casual? You bash a few MMOs and claim that it's you showing your 1337 skillz? Ugh, nevermind the arguments, you're the type of tryhard that completely turns me off of any sort of online gaming.

#355194 Any of these DQ games coming to the United States?

I didn't bring up the fee cause I dislike it (I don't generally like monthly fees for games), I brought it up cause I don't think a game like that will succeed here cause of the fee. If it's free, it would sell more, but probably lose money overall due to the server cost, but with the cost per month, I see less people buying it and a dedicated fanbase playing it, but not enough to keep it profitable. It's fairly simple, DQ ain't that popular here. A game like this to get localized seems risky for Nintendo of America. They will probably see how even Star Wars the Old Republic could not keep monthly fees going, and that franchise is popular on the entire planet.

For the record, I have more than enough money for this but I wouldn't buy it. If I spend x amount a month on one game, I would feel obligated to spend most of my time playing it. My backlog is too large as it is. I find myself buying games knowing I won't play them for a while. Plus I would feel compelled to do everything in the game which for a game like this is nearly impossible. I like to try conquering games I play.

Sighs....ok, problem with starwars was, it was boring, it was basically a single player MMO where you just go from quest to quest on practically a rail track and when you got to the end, the endgame was bland and boring. Thats why it didnt do well, sub fee had nothing to do with it.

Bottom line, if a MMO is good, people will play it even if it has a monthly fee, if a mmo isnt any good and has problems or is just damn boring at endgame or doesnt get content updates quickly enough or in a timely fashion, even if it went F2P, the majority will play it for a little while, then quit when they see the glaring problems it has.

Example of mmos that are P2P but are good enough to go P2P and has healthy sub numbers:

EQ
EQ2
FFXI
WoW

and before ya start on EQ and EQ2 I dont care that SoE says they are F2P, they arnt, they are F2P for a certain amount of levels but then beyond that, you gotta either pay the membership fee, or do micro-transactions for every little bit of content, what SoE did here was genius because they are making more money from these micro-transactions then they would have staying with a standard P2P system.

Example of mmos that were P2P but went F2P or Micro transaction because they were bad, but spite going F2P/micro is still steadily losing subs.

Aion
Lord of the Rings Online
Vanguard
DC Universe
TERA

Look into them and youll see. Aion's problems and what happened with it were so bad, that it got its own Encyclopedia dramautica page, detailing *with some humor* what caused it to fail. Lord of the rings online is lore heavy but it was a WoW clone. Vanguard is too painful for me to bring up. DC universe, I tried it, its real time action combat is horrible. TERA spite having good support from the company hosting it US Side, has glaring issues. Particularly the same issue nearly all Korean games have, which is a ungodly amount of Grind which can be made worse if you have bad luck. Thats only the major reason though, theirs other reasons as well.

Bottom-line, if you were not willing to pay a sub to play the game, then its likely you wont play it for long if it went F2P. Servers cost money to maintain, and most of the time cash shops are just not enough to keep up with that maintenance money if its just selling cosmetics, which leads to another major reason why I hate F2P, because it can bring in cash shops which may offer B2W *Buy to win* items to give players willing to shell out 30-60 dollars a month a unfair advantage. Cosmetic items in cash shops isnt enough, when the company starts to see that and they arnt getting in enough money, they will either A: Put in content micro-transactions or B: Put in B2W items.

So lemme ask you this, would you rather pay 9.99 a month sub fee, that you can cancel at any time if you think you wont play the game for a month or more, or pay up to 200 dollars or so for content upgrades to get everything and/or pay 20-40 dollars a month to get B2W items to be able to keep up/compete with your friends?

The F2P model is stupid, casual mmo gamers ask for it without any experience or slightest idea what it can do to a game. P2P is the best option, its a low sub rate, you can cancel it if you will stop playing the game for a period of time, and it ensures that the company keeps producing content and put out decent customer support as well as deal with cheaters/hackers more promptly.

Ill also tell ya another thing, if a F2P game your playing has no B2W cash shop items, then the RMTs take over in full force, so what happens there is, all the good farming spots get destroyed by RMTs, auction house gets full of crafted items by RMTs, and depending on the game you will probably very likely spend money buying the RMTs farmed currency cuz you know alot of other people will if they just cant seem to make enough money in a decent amount of time due to the RMTs.

The absolute worst is when your playing a PVP mmo, and the RMTs team up and kill you whenever your trying to farm a certain area thus keeping it to themselves, and they will be there 24/7, thus wasting your time. This mostly happens only on F2P mmos, P2P its rarely seen, due to them wanting to keep a low profile because P2P has a much higher GM Presence.

Sighs, well enough of my rant. Anyone else?

You completely missed his point, bro. What he was saying is if a big series like Star Wars can't make P2P work, he's right to be skeptical about DQ here in the US. How ood it is doesn't matter, someone out there'll like it and they'll eat it up, it's the popularity and the people willing to try it. Also, not wanting to pay to play has nothing to do with your interest to play. I've wanted to try Guild Wars 2 for months, I only recently got enough money to get it, my interest has not decreased a bit.

#350319 Transgender Day of Remembrance

Posted by Spikan on 10 November 2012 - 04:56 PM

I don't care if he guy next to me is transgender, gay, whatever, as long as he's not an ass I won't be one. But I see Derp's point.

I always thought that if you look at parades like these, they're kinda silly and hurtful to their cause. These people want to be viewed as being like the rest of us. Different. But not because of their sexual preference, because of their characteristics and actions. And to me these parades send the message "They're different! They need a parade!". But that's just my two cents.

#347381 Contest #93-Voting Round 1, Set 3

No need to get disheartened, yo. If you feel you are lacking somewhere, just practice with it. Make it a regular thing so that you'll improve the more you do it. It's definitely more productive to go that way than get discouraged.

Just make sure it's something you want to do at, as well. Practice helps, but passion does more so.

I will sometime, but the fact remains that I'll never enter a contest again after this.
(If it were allowed, I could've asked to delete the duke of fusion, but if it isn't allowed, it will linger, forever overlooked by other monsters.)

Uh...over dramatic much? No need to get so touchy about it.

Mad at yourself because you failed to be there for someone over the internet? Complaining about things like signature overload, which you yourself admit to doing? Trouble loading a simple forum?
