This is relavent to my interests. Where would one find such a thing, so I can become a screen shot whore?

Some games switch to whatever language your preferences are set on. I was already planning on importing it, so if this is true, I may speed things up.
Yes Virginia, there is a DQShrine.com.

Currently I'm working on making the game display the english script (a bit tired though so can't really do too much more). If you find the rom just jump to 39BCD10 and you'll see the following..

This is a tale of palace guards in a small kingdom called Burland.
@c0@þ@a@bAmong their number is a brave soldier by the name of Ragnar McRyan.
@c0@@a@bOne morning, King Burnard summons all of the guards to the main hall of the castle.
@c0@@a@b*: His Majesty is aboot tae make an announcement tae youse all.
Simmer doon an' listen now.
@c0@þþ@aKing Burnard@bAt ease, men.
@c0@þþ@aKing Burnard@bNo doubt youse all ken whit it is I want tae talk tae youse aboot.
@c0@þ@aKing Burnard@bI'm sure youse all will hae heard rumours aboot the wee kiddies gaein' missin' of late.
@c0@

So Ragnar and the Burlanders will speak thair ain leid, eh? I guess this means I'll have to play this game before doing any work on the DW4:Renaissance script, and change it accordingly! Will the other characters have any nonstandard accents?

No no no...He means that the english script for the game is stored inside the Japanese version. So it could be released here in the US sooner than we thought.

Awesome! I'm glad we'll get it stateside, I was a tad bit worried when they announced SK was closing down that they'd shoehorn the franchise under the rug again. This is great news. :grin:

What emulator do you use, how big are DS ROMs, and how fast/powerful is your computer?

Um, lets not turn this into a Emulation thread?

Edit: BTW, DQ5r, keep us updated. I'm trapped at work and I wanna hear more about this. :D

Just thought I'd throw this out there: DS emulators aren't very good yet. So far pretty much all of them get horrible lag and it's pretty much impossible to use the touch screen. The only way it works well is if you play DS roms with a DS. In other words you get a flash cart that can store roms and run them directly with your DS.

This is very awesome news, hopefully this means that IV is coming to NA. :thumbsup: If not, may have to get a G6 like Platty keeps talking about and get the rom patch (if/when one comes out :))

I hear there's some new Flash cart for slot one that's pretty sweet, someone in the IRC room suggested it to me. Cybus? Gokor? Koboboogo? I don't remember. Had some nice sci-fi-ey name, they also had a Slot 2 solution.

Ninja-Edit: Found it. "Cyclo DS Evolution" http://www.cyclopsds.com/

Supposedly that's the best flash cart on the market today.

Do you think someone will post all this on the web? I already have the game ordered and will be able to understand some because of over 2 years of Japanese. I think it would be cool if someone posted just the script so you could understand what's going on if you want to play the Japanese version. Just the script with the characters who are saying things would be really nice without the walkthrough because that would be too much text to print. I think with the new graphic icons for menu and items and the DS region free plus this DQ4DS could be very import friendly if you don't want to wait for the U.S version which is sure to come. Maybe there is even some code to get the English version. This is a good change from the Super Nes days when they would struggle to fit just the English version onto the cart(rpgs other than DQ) and now it contains 3 languages.
Games Complete: Dragon Warrior 1-4nes,5-8,1+3gbc, in 8 I beat all the Dragons without wipeout in game plus I got the best mini medal prize. Final Fantasy Ines,IVSuperNes,VII.Zelda 1,2,Link to the Past. Golden Axe. Sword of Vermillion. Sonic the Hedgehog. Pilotwings. Kidicarus. Super Mario 1-3(nes), Super Mario World. Star Wars(NES). Super Star Wars(Super NES). X-wing. Defender of the Crown(NES).

Recent Finishes: Dragon Quest Swords-game plus first set of bonus bosses, Crisis Core.

Now Playing: Sudden Strike 3, Close Combat 3

It looks like the translation is not 100% complete because the prologue isn't translated and some of the text is misalligned etc (also haven't been able to get the name entry to use english chars) Though it is running fine otherwise... :>

From what I understand about Square Enix's recent localizations, the English translator works in Japan with the Japanese development staff, and then the North American editor takes it from there once the game is released publicly in Japan. This is why in the Japanese credits for FF6 Advance, the translator (Tom Slattery) was mentioned, while the editor (Colin Williamson) wasn't.

We get signal.

Posted Image

Main screen turn on.

Posted Image

So, um yeah.

Apparently all you have to do to turn the game English?

Change the letters JP to EN in the rom someplace. There's even a Action Replay code to do it. Specifically:

02106404 0000000X
Where X is the language you want. 0 = JP, 1 = EN, 2 = FR, 3 = DE, 4 = IT, 5 = ES.

They really really need to announce this. If they were going to surprise us with a "Hey, Slimeknights is just being renamed to Roto's Guardians, btw, DQ4-6 DS are US bound" thing in the upcoming weeks, well, they need to get on it. :P
