Wheeee.
Well, I can play almost all NES and SNES games on my Xbox. But I can only play a few N64 games. So I absolutely think I'll get a Revolution first of all. This will be the console that I probaly will use the most. I also heard that the revolution will cost around 200 US dollars. Microsoft and Sony doesn't have much else to compete with except power, multimedia and mainstream EA and Squaresoft games.

Edit: Not much more info than this though. Somehow I'm having trouble beliving it will be 100% free. I also found this from Famitsu (If anyone can read Japanese?) http://ranobe.com/up...ata/up40450.jpg

Edit 2: Nintendo Vice President Talks!! http://gamesradar.ms...bsectionid=1587
He says that the first party games from Nintendo will be free!! Maybe this is true after all then.

Interesting. Very interesting. My level of interest in getting a Revolution went from 0% up to 25%. We'll see what follows.

[Edit] The free thing has to be a joke, not when Nintendo's getting $20+ a pop for some of these games on GBA.

A retraction of the previous statement from Lasse Kongo:

Quote

Bad news.
"[NOJ President Satoru] Iwata says, "Though the baseless rumor flows in the internet that the virtual console download service is free,
it is not scheduled to deliver it in free.
maybe download it (old games) as a privilege when consumers buy a new game,
maybe download it by consistent of the campaign at limited time,
variety methods will be used.
Using the properties in the past, I want to take shape that the profit is paid to Nintendo to the end. "

:(

I figured as much. After all, we are dealing with the company that charges $15 for GBA ports of NES games from the October '85 Series.

Nintendo likes to troll for any possible profits, so it's guaranteed that we'll be paying between $5 and $20 for every game on that list. But hell, I'm certainly not paying $19.99 for Donkey Kong that dosent even include the pie factory level.

And chances are, half of the games on that list wont be downloadable outside of Japan (Those Fire Emblems especially)

Thats something I also hearing about for out of Japan gamers will ya be able to get A game from anyway? Its a Good Q: with it useing internet there may be hope or atleast a way around it :) . I say the most they make ya pay for is $5 anything more there going to lose buys in that part of it. If there $20 theres no way there going to sell for that.

The downloadables is the very reason I'm getting the Revolution. EArthbound alone makes it worth it. Plus, I'll finally get to play Banjo-Tooie :)

Earthbound is a SNES game. Should be easy to locate on your favorite ROM site or P2P network.

The NES Version of Earthbound is known as "Earthbound Zero" in the US. It was never released in the US. It was cancelled just days before release (And doing such has since been known as "Pulling a Nintendo")

Earthbound zero/Mother 1 is much, much harder than the SNES one. If you want a summary of the game, it's pretty much like playing Dragon Warrior 2 without the mideval theme.

Earthbound/Mother 2 is the sequel to the NES game. There are noticable plot tie-ins, and even some remixed music. Earthbound is unquestionably my favorite video game of all time. It's a shame that so many people quit Earthbound before even getting to Starman Jr. The game starts slow, but picks up rather quickly.

Try them both. I've never beaten EB0, but I've gone through Earthbound no less than 15 times. They're both amazing games.

The Earthbound series is the epitome of the cult classic RPG. It has a lot of truly demented fans, but by the same token, I cannot tell you how many times I overheard somebody say "What game is Ness from?" during a Smash Bros. tournament in the student lounge.

DragonQuest has also got some truly demented fans ;)

Anyway, as far as the list of games, I'd say it wouldn't be so far-fetched for them to be free downloads. Besides the recent GBA ports of some of those games, they are objects of the past that Nintendo does not really profit from anymore. If they were to be free downloads, Nintendo would be able to sell a hell of a lot more Revolutions to people who want easy, free, legal access to classic games. Tons of people are already emulating these games, and if they were to be pay-to-download, that would just cause more people to emulate them and in turn Revolution sales would not be as high as they could be.

If Nintendo takes the smart route, they'd make the downloads free of charge...or maybe $99c a game like Apple does with iTunes music. Greater console sales would overshadow meager sales of classic game downloads(that more people would be reluctant to download if they had to pay ridiculous prices like $20 for them)
