Since when is grinding fun? Its the most boring part of RPGs.

Boring? Sometimes yes. But it is also the main focus of the game! If you could just win everything it's be like watching a very interactive movie.

You were just asking to get flamed, no offense. How could you like Dragon Quest if you don't like grinding? I suppose it is funny that your characters leveled up so fast, but what are you going to do w/your game now? Hang it up on your wall so you can admire your ill-gotten level 99 characters? The joy of JRPGs is grinding. All that work is so worth it though. I still admire my characters in DQIX for all the work I put into making 'em the best they can be.

I second this, even though I regularly hate grinding.
Once I start grinding though, I end up not stopping, especially with what happened to me and DQIX. Baramos literally became as hard as the Trauminator--and, as most of us probably know, the Trauminator isn't hard.

But honestly, are we not more civilized than the people flying around over at GameFAQs? This thread is making it begin to look that way. 'Course, I know we're more civilized.

Ugh, cheating just completely ruins a game. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Here's how I see it...

People enjoy games for different reasons.

If someone is using a cheat to make the game more enjoyable to them or possibly turning a game they would otherwise not care for into one that creates an enjoyable experience for them who's to say that they're wrong? Certainly in an online game this line of logic wouldn't apply due to the inherent competitive nature of online gaming and the imbalance created by cheating having a negative impact on the other players that aren't cheating... but, really, what's the harm in doing it in a single-player game? It certainly isn't the way that I would do it, but I fail to see how it's wrong for someone else to do it if that's the way they like their games.

Because he can pretty much just watch a video walkthrough and get about as much out of watching it as he will by playing it at this point, all challenge is stripped out of it. If you're not attentive enough to battle monsters for an hour or two at times then why play an RPG? That's kind of the point of the game, fight stuff. It just perplexes me.

Well. He clearly doesn't play for the same reason you or I do. Maybe gets his jollies off by mercilessly slaughtering monsters? Clearly he gets some enjoyment out of battles or else he would just use a code to turn them off. Maybe he enjoys talking to every single person and reading the party chat. Perhaps he just likes to explore. There's more to Dragon Quest games than just "fighting stuff". A game can be played many ways and the way one decides to play it is one's own choice. I don't think it's fair to deride someone just because they're entertained in a way that you don't understand or agree with.

I wholeheartedly agree that just because something is meant to be used a certain way, it isn't the only approach to benefit from it. Everyone has a different point of view, depending on their upbringing and experiences, and those life events help shape who a person becomes and how they think. It is perfectly fine to have your own ideology and share it, so long as it does not become a habit of wanting to establish ones ideas to be universally accepted. So in this case, playing a game the "right" way is okay. But playing the game the "wrong" way should be perfectly acceptable as well, so long as both parties are getting enjoyment out of it, and neither interferes with each others indulgence, like multiplayer gaming, unless all participants acquiesce. This is the act of ideal compromise, which we do all the time to respect the law, which in retrospect is needed because of the untrained idealism that roams freely without conduct, also known as "ignorance". That said, you don't have to take my word for it. It is simply what I have thought to be the best approach to better understand the nature of human society and how it works, and you don't even need a major in sociology to figure it out.

So enjoy your games! There are far more important things to chew over. I for one cannot find Waldo...

requires patience but it's still faster than most other ways.  Right now I'm grinding MKS outside the Prison of Sorrow in DQVI and I'm having pretty good luck.  Of course the games that have the Sands of Time do help grinding be less of a chore.

The only thing that annoys me on Slime Hill are the abundance of trees and bushes, those metals seem to land in them quite a bit. I guess I'm more tenacious though, as I've grinded and farmed for a long while on some sessions.



Although, if you like cheat codes... That's fine with me, I used to occasionally use a Game Genie on my NES games.

must agreed on that. the best place to massacre MKS so far.. i had like 5-6 encounter of it out of 10 battles Rofl. spamming hatchet mans on 4 units is also the best way to put out of the boring of grinding.

I fail to see how it's funny, but I don't care too much if you hack to level up. I find it to be a cheap way to level up, but as long as you aren't playing online, I don't care. I can't say I haven't cheated like that, though. But then again, it was because I wanted to see what would happen when you win one of the unwinnable battles. Sadly, the game either freezes, or just goes on with what would happen normally, depending on the game.

I personally find grinding fun. I would rather not be strong enough to beat the final boss of the game right off the bat. (Like in Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story...)

I can understand how this is funny. It might have taken hours to get to level 40 or whatever, then just in like 3 seconds boom level 99. It would make me laugh in the way "Take that game!"

maybe, but what if certain cheat codes makes the save file corrupt over times. don't you think the game will goes "take that cheater!"

Some games in the 90s with the Game Genie really did that, 'cause the cheat corrupted the cartridge itself.

Happened to me once, can't remember the game tho.
