Right, so, on a whim, just tried Tag mode with my Japanese copy (and bumming my wife's DS), and it worked! (multi-player didn't seem to). My old lvl 96 Armamentalist is now in my inn, and I now have a few treasure maps....I didn't try tag-ing any of the Legacy Boss maps....in fear it would mess something up with the quests to get them.

I was wondering if anyone (...who I guess was in Japan about a year ago...) had any of the "uber" Japanese maps, The Kawasaki Map, or a map with Metal Kings for example? Legit map, not an Action Replay-ed map....think an AR unlocked map can cause issues with the game...anyone know?

If so, let me know...would be neat if we could get that circulating.....somehow....

All it will really take to circulate is getting it on a game that's on a flash cart, then uploading the flash cart's save to the internet.

I've got a save file with the Masayuki map (Metal map). It's on my work PC though. If you like I can upload it tomorrow.

Go for it...I'll dig out my R4 (ashamed) and try to convert the save, if necessary....

That would be awesome King - is it a Japanese save or a North American save?

It's a Japanese save. My understanding is that the treasure maps on it were obtained legitimately but I am not sure how to verify that. I fired it up in an emulator just to make sure the save file was valid and everything seems to be ok.

It's of no use without a flash cart but it seemed like a good idea to keep that save file around. If anyone with a flash cart (and two DS's) would like to take it and start tagging it around that would be great. I'll upload it when I get to work.

I fit that bill, King. However, I live in the lower Alabama area, so I'm not sure how much help I'll be spreading it about, but I will spread it to everyone I know with the game, which at this point will be at least 3 people.

They have advertised the tag mode working between the two games, so there shouldn't be any problem transfering your Legacy Boss maps. In the Japanese version I got Zoma through tag mode before the quest to get his map was unlocked and it didn't cause any problems. As long as your map is legitimate (Zoma was available from Monsters Battle Road).

What I've heard is that if you use a cheat map and you quick save in it, you have a chance of corrupting your save file. I only read that from a Japanese forum, so I don't know how true this is, but its a reason to be careful.

Downloaded it - if you ever come across any more awesome maps, feel free to upload a save for it and I'll get it all taggable on my game. Then it's just a matter of meeting up with me.

Awesome. From what I have heard, the Masayuki map is the level 87 one, in case you have any difficulty in identifying it. There may well be other good maps on there too. I really haven't looked into it at all yet.

Hmmm now maybe I can borrow my brother's or nephew's DS and atleast Tag that map to myself. I'm sure Metal King Slimes would make experience grinding quicker than my Metal Medley map. Even though it is currently quicker than grinding anywhere else.

Thanks for the details Mimas.

AFAIK, there isn't a way to tell if it's a legit map or not...King.Z, if the save was from someone in japan, it's pro'ly good....since there wouldn't really be a reason for them to action-replay it....if it was a US player, I'd be afraid.

Anyone in/near Denver area? Let me know!

Anywho, I was pondering this idea....not really ideal, and risky (post office does lose things...and that would suck), but if anyone wanted the map tag-ed, I suppose they could overnight ship it to someone with 2 DS systems, and include a senf-addressed return post-paid label for return....?...?

I've pondered the same thing, and in general I would be willing to do that for people, I think it is a bit too much of a risk to send that sort of thing in the mail least it get destroyed or lost. What we really need to do is organize meetings among DQ fans in certain areas. But it would have to extend beyond this site, and I don't know how that is best organized.

I hope it doesn't, but I certainly haven't tested it. Good luck.

On that note, assuming you could cheat a map onto your game and have it capable of corrupting peoples save files, wouldn't it work like a bit of a virus as you passed it around in tag-mode? I would be surprised if that was a possibility. I kind of suspect this corrupt save file thing could be a hoax. If it isn't, how are we to protect ourselves against invalid save files?

There must be some way to practice safe tagging.
