DWVII on PSP

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm trying to get my rip of DWVII to run on my PSP, as the title explains. I'm using PSX2PSP v. 1.4.2 to convert my PS1 iso's to PSP eboots. I have gotten other games to work, including Dragon Quest 4 (Which runs better than the DS version... Too bad there's no English patch), but I can't figure out how to get multiple disk games to work. I've tried using ISO/PBP File 1 and ISO/PBP File 2 in one eboot, which will start booting and then say that it was unable to run the game. I have also tried creating two eboots, the second one overwrites the first and then says it is unable to run the game.

I'm using a PSP 3000 with CFW 6.60 Pro B9 or something like that (it's not a permanent one, I wanted to be able to switch back and forth between official and custom firmwares.

You need the full Popsloader plugin, and you just gotta try it version to version for it to work. I think it's 3.71 that works.

I'm sorry if this is stupid, but I'm not sure what you mean. Firmware version? Pops loader version? Is the "full pops loader" a plugin for PSX2PSP, or is it a different program?

Popsloader is a plugin for the PSP itself. I used GEND3... so it'd be differet for you.

I'm sorry, I still don't really get it. ): I'm new to all of this custom firmware stuff. Emulation on the PC is so much easier, but I really want to play this on the PSP.

posploader is a plugin for the firmware itself, that allows it to run PSX games at different versions of past PSX on PSP firmwares(pops). This is because Sony began blocking unofficial versions of games they sell thru the PSN Network. after installing, when you launch a PSX game for the first time, you'll have to choose the correct version of pops it runs in. for that info, you'll probably have to google by game, but for DW7 it should be 3.52.

that being said, I think this is the one you need:

read installation instruction and good luck.

Wow... I have no luck with emulators but Dragon Warrior VII on the PSP would be the bestest thing ever. My poor old PS2 doesn't run PS1 games very well anymore. And also just the LENGTH of the game I would prefer on a handheld or computer. (DW VII just needs a damn re-release, I wouldn't mind another DS remake, freaking graphic systems are the same, wouldn't that be super easy for the developers?!)

If it all works out maybe I'll try getting back into emulators. I wish you luck.

I've tried all versions of pops on 2 different versions of popsloader (v3 and v4e). I still can't get my eboot to work. I've created two eboots using my own disks in case my first one was corrupted or something, and I also tried making one from ISOs I downloaded. It still doesn't work. Is there a different version of PSX2PSP? (I had the latest at the time this topic was started, I don't know if there's a new one yet)

I'm at the end of my playthrough, and had no issues so far (some years back, when I first tried playing DW7 on the PSP, the game used to glitch on the Deathpal fight, but with the new pops and cfw's released, it's working 100%) here's my settings:

Firmware - 6.20 PRO-C Permanent (you can use all the way to 6.60, I just like having permanent firmware)

Popsloader - latest one with 3.71 fw (best compatibility, hold R as you start the game and select 3.71, if you didn't know already)

Created a multi-disk eboot using PSX2PSP (ImpalerPSX is also decent), used these settings and had no problems so far. If you try this and it still doesn't work, I'm guessing the iso is faulty, or even your firmware ... just re-install your cfw from scratch, happened to me once.

I don't think the firmware matters, as I had an eboot working I downloaded from Demonoid on firmware 5.50 GEN-D3.

However, I do remember using 3.71. I think it's kind of dumb how it didn't support it otherwise.

If I use the default pops from flash (6.60), I get an error that says it can't read the the game. If I use any other version of pops, including 6.60 from memstick, it shuts down my PSP entirely. It does not do this with any pops on Final Fantasy VII. Note that I actually bought FF7. I have used PSX2PSP For other games, though I have not tried them with pops loader and none of them were multi-disk. I am running CFW 6.60 PRO-b9 (fast loader, not permanent) on a PSP-3001. I also have CWCHEAT installed, could this be the issue? I think I tried running the game with it disabled but I don't remember for sure.

Nah, I use cwcheat all the time (save convertions between emulators, and some random hacking).

I see your cfw version is a little bit outdated, might as well update it. As Derpametric said, most of the time, it doesn't matter, but I've seen some cases where old firmware was the problem. (Also, the new functions are damn great, Prometheus Online is crazy)

You said the PSP shuts down if you try to use any pops other than the default, right? I'm pretty sure that's because your popsloader folder is incomplete. You need to download/rip each fw you want with popsloader installer, and some other things ... but ... I've a better idea:

Here's my popsloader folder, ready to be used :3

Just replace your popsloader folder with this one on PSP:\SEPLUGINS, reboot your PSP, and give it a try!

Ok, I'll try that, but how come pops loader doesn't crash with other games? I think my issue is related to the eboot. Well, I'll try that tommorow if I have time and see if it helps. Thanks!

Dragon Warrior 7 is pretty hard to emulate on the PSP. I had to find a copy off of a now-defunct website. Sorry man, if I still had it, I'd funnel it to ya.

Sorry for the double post, but...

OMG IT WORKS!!!

(I somehow missed some files in the copy process... don't know how 3.52 worked that first time though...)

Now I need to buy one of those psp a/v cables and make a "controller hack" (make a controller port that plugs into the a/v / headset port, with an extra a/v port on it as well) and I can play on the go as well as play at home with ab authentic experience but with the same saves! (I know I could just play my original discs, but I fon't have the hardware needed to interface with the memory cards to convert the saves. For that matter, I don't know if I could build the controller hack, I've just seen it online)

Wow... I found my own topic by doing a google search for "dragon quest dubstep"

It's a small Internet after all

Don't know if this should go here or in a new topic, but I ran into a big problem: apparently when I was looking at emulation sites and such I picked up a really nasty redirect virus (nasty as in hard to get rid of) that not only affects google but also when I type a URL (such as http://www.woodus.com/den/home.php, yeah I memorized every bit of that from typing it so much). Anyways it hijacks my browser (I only have IE9 on this one) and slows down my computer. Malwarebites doesn't pick it up, and norton is expired. Does anyone have any idea what I should do, or could point me in the direction of finding an answer elsewhere?

I'll check out avast

I have the disks, I can just play it on my ps or ps2. I wanted to be able to play when I'm not at home. Although I do have to switch to ePSXe occasionally because sometimes the game freezes on psp (like after the battle with DeathGon or when the hero attacks Brigand in the battle with the bandits in dharma. Although it wouldn't freeze if I attacked with the Boomerang.

Can someone give me the URL for the real vast website? I'm worried the virus will redirect me to a fake site from google.

Okay, I've come acroos another problem.

Whenever my hero attacks in a scripted battle (bosses, etc.) the game locks up. I can still access the "PS button menu" (I don't remember what it's officially called) but I can't continue afterwords. This is annoying as hell because I put this on my psp for a reason, I don't want to have to copy my save to an emulator every time there is a boss, and the only way i know to beat these battles on my psp is to have my hero be useless (except for upper and HealMore, but I have very little max MP because I'm in the middle of the Warrior class). And fighting bosses with just Gabo (still a little underlevelled) and Maribel (Low hp and defense) is hopeless.

Even more confusing is that this didn't happen before. Asides from the DeathGon in Dharma, which I heard cannot be beaten on psp at all because the freeze is right AFTER the battle and consistent, none of this happened until the fight with the bandits in Present Dharma, and has affected every non-random battle since (I am now at the beginning of the Sphinx in past Dune).

Anyways, does anyone have a fix for this? Maybe it's a problem with the eboot I downloaded? I was going to make one from my own disks again, but PSX2PSP keeps saying it is done right after clicking "Convert" (I think it's a problem with the SD card that the program is on, I'll check it out later)

Try using pops 4.01 (or was it 4.10?). I tried the game myself recently, and, using the latest cfw, that's the only way I could play the game. Sorry if I recommended you some outdated pops, It's been awhile, and the compatibility changed in the most recent firmwares, for some reason.

Emulating DQ7 on the PSP is really a mess, but not as terrible as emulating Digimon World 3 (ripping the game 1:1, changing the game ID for the JP one, using a crappy pops, unable to be compressed, etc).
