  1. What are you reading?

I'm reading Baptism of Fire, which is part of The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski. I played Witcher 3 last summer and fell in love with the story and characters, so I'm going to read all the books, then play the first two games. Great reading if anyone was thinking about picking them up. The first two books are a collection of short stories, while the rest are proper novels.
  2. Translation Project

Actually, you don't need arm9loaderhax. I've gone as far as getting emuNand set up then use an NTR plugin running within Luma to patch the orchestrated files in. Another benefit to NTR is I can force the 800MHz cpu speed which gets rid of the menu lag along with most of the frame rate drops.
  3. I was fortunate to help out a little bit on the project, and it was a absolute pleasure working with Helmax. He's a great person with a dedication to Dragon Quest like we could only dream of SE having. Enjoy the game people, it's a lot of fun and will keep you busy for a long time.
  4. Arrived a few days late, but better late than never.
  5. Funny story about item's disappearing in NES games...I was playing FF3 via reproduction cart and I somehow lost the Sylx Key so I couldn't finish the game. As some of you may know, there's a glitch in the game that people exploit to get Onion equipment early in the game for an Onion Knight run. Well, it just so happens I inadvertently got the glitch to happen in a random battle and the Sylx Key was transformed into another item. I ended up having to spend quite a bit of item intentionally reproducing the glitch to transform another item into the key so I could finish the game. Good times.
  6. Finally free from Windows

Yeah, and I've actually done linux kernel development in one of my college courses. I don't have time for that kind of stuff right now though, I just want something that works decently out of the box. I haven't run into anything insurmountable so far, and the nvidia driver that was just released the other day gave me a significant performance boost in a bunch of my games. The future is bright for gaming Linux, so I don't see myself switching back to windows except for the odd game I can't get to run well through wine.
  7. Finally free from Windows

In Linux, very rarely do you need to install drivers manually because they are a part of the kernel. The only driver I've had to install manually on all three systems I converted to Linux is my display driver, everything else worked out of the box. If you don't see Linux drivers on the manufacturer's page, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You can always boot up a live cd and test out the linux distro you're interested it in without having to install it.
  8. Last week I decided to finally ditch Windows in favour of Linux. I've had enough of Windows 10 and Microsoft, and have for a while, but I've put up with it due to gaming. I found out a few weeks ago that half my steam library has support for Linux and since then two more games have been added. The performance for games isn't as good as Windows for the most part, but I can still hit at least 60fps in almost every game. However, with Vulkan on the horizon, performance on newer games should rival that of Windows, and probably exceed due to having less overhead. Not only that, but Linux doesn't spy on you like Windows does, doesn't force updates, doesn't install never versions without consent and doesn't reboot to install updates while you're in the middle of using it. Oh, and it's free. If anyone was ever considering switching I highly recommend it. I picked Mint 17.3 as my distro after trying a few out. It's kind of a lighter version of Ubuntu.
  9. Getting a 3DS, recommend a game for me.

My wife got me Bravely Default for my birthday and I just picked up FE: Birthright, so I have lots to keep me busy until DQ VII comes out. A big thanks to those that suggested Fire Emblem, I'm having an absolute blast playing Awakening and will definitely go back and try some of the older games later. I think I'm going to do another run through Awakening on hard mode before moving on to Bravely Default. I'm going to leave Fates for after BD because I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of time with that set of games.

Yeah I got Donnel, he's pretty kick ass once you level him up
  11. Getting a 3DS, recommend a game for me.

I'm currently at chapter 15. I've spent lots of times grinding to try and keep my unit levels balanced since I didn't really have many favourite characters at the beginning. Chrome and Robin can probably do the entire game just the two of them. I don't plan on doing re-classing or anything because right now it seems to be fairly easy. There's a few children I'm unable to recruit at the moment because the opponents are just too strong, but I haven't had any issues with the story battles. EDIT: Most of my deaths were early in the game, now I rarely die unless I do something incredibly stupid like putting a Pegasus Knight within range of a Sniper or something like that.

Man I'm hooked on FE: Awakening; such a good game. My wife got me Bravely Default for my birthday and I just ordered FE: Birthright on Amazon. I'm debating if I'll give Awakening a go on Hard or move on to Bravely Default. Has anyone tried playing Awakening on Classic without save scumming when someone dies? At first I thought I would be ok with it, but after losing a unit near the beginning I was like "the hell with that" and have been save scumming since. I feel kinda dirty doing it, but it's my first time through and didn't feel like losing any more units.
  13. Awesome birthday gift.

I have it above my battle station right now. Seems like a fitting place.
  14. My family pitched in and got me this painting for my birthday. It's one of 50 that were made. The artitst does up the paintings, then you can get them printed out a variety of ways. You can check out the rest of the guy's work here: http://www.redbubble.com/people/orioto
