  1. Dragon Quest X to be Ported to PC

It says "In order to start a new Adventure Log, you need to begin with Offline Mode. *You can skip the initial scenario."
  2. Dragon Quest X to be Ported to PC

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The beta test is only open during limited hours. From Monday to Thursday it's running 12pm-6pm (Japanese time), and Friday to Sunday from 12pm-12am. Source Also, I found that on the official site it says that "Phase 1.0" of the beta test goes from 10pm June 22 until 6pm July 10, and then "Phase 1.1" is planned to run from late July to early August. It notes that there may be interruptions during the beta test for fine tuning / updating based on user feedback and any bugs that may be found. Finally, it points out that any characters created during the beta test cannot be carried over into the official release. Source
  3. Dragon Quest X to be Ported to PC

The error message says that the beta test is not currently running, please wait a while and try again later. Everyone's getting the same message. Hopefully it'll be back up soon!
  4. What RPG's are you currently playing?

Well I still haven't gotten around to finishing FF4 yet, but I had a wonderful afternoon of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys the other day (yes, it's that short, that my first time playing it consisted of about 5 hours beginning to end).
  5. Where did your ancestors come from?

Well if you go back far enough, essentially everyone's descended from the first human, or wherever you draw the line of homo sapien in the evolutionary chain. One of the prevailing theories says that we originated somewhere in central-eastern Africa. But as for the Americas, they were populated by the "Natives" at least 10,000 years ago, as opposed to European and other immigrants who didn't arrive (and stay) until the 1400's or so. So about 6% of the time. The other 94% has to be worth something. Myself, I'm half Ukrainian. One of my grandparents on each side is of western Ukrainian stock. I've got a quarter French Canadian, as that side of the family has been in Canada since the 1640's, and then the remaining quarter is some mix of Irish and English. As for famous connections, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, seventh prime minister of Canada, is my great-great-great-great uncle.
  6. Did you guys know about the monsters hidden around the world? I've found two so far: Mt. Fuji - there's a Specter. Hawaii - main island, near the centre, there's a Red Dragon! You have to zoom in to a certain level before they'll appear (roughly 1/3 from the top of meter). What else have you guys found?
  7. Old game crushes

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I actually find Jessica to be rather unattractive. They sure "sexied" her up, but that really didn't do it for me. I'd have preferred if they made her a more ordinary gal instead. Or at least been more subtle about it.
  8. Kid Icarus Uprising pre-order bonus!

It's heeeeeeere!!! And WOW, is it great! The 3D graphics are really impressive. The soundtrack is beautiful and energetic. The dialogue is downright hilarious. The action is intense. The controls take a wee bit of getting used to, but once you get it, they're really nice. The plastic stand actually feels really nice to use too. You can tell they really put a lot of effort into this game. There are so many extras, game modes, options, and all that. Plus, there's a HUGE influence from Smash Bros. in pretty well every aspect of the game, especially the menus and the multiplayer. And that's not a bad thing at all.
  9. What RPG's are you currently playing?

Grand Fantasia (PC) - I have a Lv 26 mage and a Lv 16 fighter at the moment. Cool game. I've never really played an MMORPG before, but I'm enjoying this one quite a bit. Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition (PSP) - It's phantastic. The voice acting is really good, and it's giving me a linguistic workout. I like the way it plays. I have the Super Famicom version, and I've played a little bit of the PlayStation remake, but this version feels the most complete, with a few kinks worked out to boot. Final Fantasy IV Advance (GBA) - Sort of on hold. I got to the ... I won't post spoilers, so the third map. And then I kind of just stopped a couple weeks ago. I want to get back to it and finish it off.
  10. DQX pre-order exclusives

I'm a little iffy about pre-ordering DQ X at the moment. I haven't decided for sure yet whether I'll be buying a Wii U, and if so, whether I will buy it right away after it comes out. Of course if I do end up getting it, I'd like to have the Wii U version of Dragon Quest X. So it's all a game of release dates for me, I suppose.
  11. Kid Icarus Uprising pre-order bonus!

I, too, have pre-ordered the game and am quite excited to see where this series picks up after, what is it, something like 21 years of inactivity? And, alas, Nintendo does not like Canadians (or other non-"American" North Americans). No 3D Classics Kid Icarus for us. Why? Because screw you, that's why. (Yeah, I'm still a little cheesed that I didn't get the promised gold cart for Zelda: Ocarina of Time that was promised with pre-orders. They never bothered to mention Canadians wouldn't get it.) All that nonsense aside though, I'm looking forward to what looks to be a most exciting game!
  12. Old game crushes

Hmm, good question! Some that come to mind for me are: -Rena, from Star Ocean 2 (big time!) -Misty, from Pokémon (before the anime) -Rikku, from Final Fantasy X and X-2 -Karen, from Harvest Moon 64 -Mint, from Tales of Phantasia -Claire, from Resident Evil: Code Veronica -The girl on the cover of Lufia: The Legend Returns for GBC (haha...)
  13. Well done good sir! You have just experienced the root of all that is Dragon Quest. Good to hear people are still playing, completing, and enjoying this game after all these years. Simple as this game is, it's still one of my favourites.
  14. Final Fantasy IV

Not sure if you were directing that at me, but I certainly plan to! Maybe not immediately, but in the near future. I've played a bit of V and VI back when the PS2 first came out and I picked up FF Anthology (I never had a PS1), but only a wee bit into each, really. They both seemed like pretty great games, though!
  15. Final Fantasy Games

I have played a lot of the Final Fantasy games, but I haven't finished many of them. I really did enjoy FF I & II: Dawn of Souls on the GBA. I love FFI anyway, and the added dungeons made it that much more fun. FF2 wasn't quite as good, but all in all not a bad game. As long as you don't choose to exploit the leveling system, it works okay. And the added epilogue was top notch. Then there was FFIII. I got the DS version, and boy was I disappointed. Sure, it looks great. But the story was practically non-existent and the characters were cookie-cutters. Plus the fact that they weren't able to render up to nine enemies at once like they did in the Famicom version meant the battling was quite different, and for the worse. They tried to make the monsters harder to make up for only having a maximum of three at a time, but they just made it dull instead. Plus, the whole requiring so many friend-code messages just in order to unlock stuff was awful. And the bonus boss is ridiculously overpowered. I think you can gather that I didn't like it. I'm now playing FFIV on the GBA, and so far I'm very impressed. I haven't really played much of V or VI, so no comment there. VII. Oh boy. Decent game. Somewhat compelling story. Characters are mostly awful. I can't stand Cloud, and I can't stand Sephiroth. Haven't played VIII. I love FF IX. It was pretty much my first Final Fantasy, besides playing about 1/3 of the way through FF1 on an emulator way back in the day. I can go back to this one again and again, and it never gets old. FFX was ... okay. I guess. A lot of problems, but a few good things going for it too. I refuse to pay a subscription to play a game I already bought, so I won't be playing FFXI. And, contrary to what seems to be popular opinion, I love FFXII. I like the free-roaming aspect of it, the battle system is dynamic and engaging, and it doesn't slow things down unnecessarily, which I like. Plus, you can pick your battles easily enough. The characters could use some work, but the story is engrossing on a grand-scale-of-things level. Plus, the controls are spot on. And, I haven't had a chance to play XIII yet, as I don't own a console it's on. Despite having played all these, I only beat the first three so far though.
