- How do you get the 50,000 coins needed for the metal babble shield? (Added: February 14, 1999)
- chapter 3 is the best time to get the 3 metal babble shields and 8 meteorite armbands because casino coins are cheap during chapter 3. With 4000 gold you can get 400 coins and have 4 go's at the poker table, betting 100 coins each time. 4 tries isn't very much, but it's very possible that you'll get at least a 2-pairs-win once. once you've bought the 400 coins, save your game before you bet any of them. then go play poker. once you've won, double-or-nothing the winnings until you get to like 3200 or 6400 coins and then you'll have 32 or 64 go's at the poker table until you run out of coins. if you don't win the double-or-nothing to 3200 or 6400 coins, who cares. just push mr. reset button and you've got your original sum of 400 coins to bet again. if you win 3200 or 6400 coins, go save your game. then you'll always have a default 3200 or 6400 coins to bet. 64 tries at the casino table betting 100 coins each will give you a good chance of double-or-nothing your win up to 64000 coins (or 32000 coins twice) to get yourself a metal babble shield. it takes a long time. but it's worth it. just make sure you have enough coins left after you've bought the shield to have another 64 tries at the table for another shield!
...if, on the other hand, you are playing DW IV on your computer, and you're using NESticle, bet on the battle arena and keep double-or-nothing your winnings until you've got lots of coins. save your game with a "save state" with F5 before each battle in case you lose. if you lose, restore your state with F7 and resume your double-or-nothing bets where you left off.
Using the method I have just detailed, I obtained enough casino coins in just under 3 hours for: 3 metal babble shields, 8 meteorite armbands, 1 Mirror of Ra. I guess it doesn't take as long as I remember.
